Pictures IV

Somehow by seeing Falky doing his happy dance in this pic, the first lines of the Gorillaz's song "Clint Eastwood" kept popping up in my head *g*

I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long The future is coming on
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long The future is coming on
It's coming on It's coming on It's coming on

Yeah... Ha Ha! Finally someone let me out of my cage
Now, time for me is nothing cos I'm counting no age
Now I couldn't be there Now you shouldn't be scared

Den Haag, a view at the court-pond which is next to the houses of parliament, it used to be a dune lake, but when Den Haag expanded it was turned into a pond. In winter when it gets cold enough for the court-pond to freeze and build a thick layer of ice, the pond becomes a public skating rink.

The little tower in the centre of the picture is where the Dutch Prime-Minister has his office. When he looks out of his* window he has a nice view over the court-pond.

The House on the left is the Mauritshuis, A museum dedicated to the 15th, 16th an 17th century Dutch masters. It's collection isn't by far as large as that of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, but still can boast on having several Masterpieces by Rembrandt and Vermeer

* His, because in all of our parliamentary history we haven't had a lady PM yet.

The crazy bunch taking a stroll along the court-Pond

Den Haag has more statues than any other city in the Netherlands and the promenade along the court-Pond is lined with several of them.
The statue of Jantje was made after a nursery rhyme in which he features. But Jantje isn't an imaginary character, he did exsist. Jantje was a son of Count Floris V. He became count himself at the age of 13 in 1296 when his father was murdered. He was only count for 2 years. Family and enemies put so much pressure on him that he died of stress at the age of 15, shorty after English nobles had forced him to step down.

Jantje is pointing at the houses of Parliament, because the Ridderzaal (Knight's Hall) which forms the heart of the houses of Parliament was built by his father Count Floris V. And the Count's family lived there during the summer.
